Product Review: The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid

I’m A Liquid Lipstick Virgin…

It’s just not something I’ve ever really tried! Of course, when I was younger I used to use those lipgloss’ in a tube like this one. But as an adult [I keep telling myself I’m an adult anyway…], I had never really used them.

However, when I got the haul from The Body Shop the other day, I added in a liquid lipstick, just to try out and see how I felt about the whole thing. It’s called the Matte Lip Liquid and it’s £6.00 from The Body Shop.

The Shade?

I went for a nude – obviously – called Windsor Rose, which I’ve heard good things about on Instagram. It’s a warm brown tone which is good for autumn/winter.

What Is It Like?

It’s quite a thick product – it’s kind of strange, and not really very pleasant to put on. I can’t really explain what it feels like, apart from thick and smooth, like nutella!

It glides on quite well, and it’s easy to get a good shape with the thin brush. It smells really nice too – a kind of clean, makeup smell.

What Does It Look Like?

I took a photo of me wearing it, so that you can see exactly what it looks like on. It’s a really lovely colour, and I think it’d be flattering for any skin tone. It looks great when it first goes on, however after about half an hour, it goes pretty dry and cracks on your lips – even though I made sure mine were super moisturised before putting the lipstick on. I was pretty disappointed with how quickly it turned.

I don’t know whether I could have prepped my lips further and that might have helped, but I always apply a thick layer of lip balm with my skin care before I do my makeup.

Not only that, but it felt kinda awful on my lips once it had dried out too. I licked my lips and it felt like I’d got chalky, dry bits on them – which is soo not nice. It’s a shame because so many of the reviews are really positive. Maybe it was just me but I do feel like it could be more moisturising and less drying!

So, I’m not obsessed with the product, but I do love the colour so much that I’ll be trying again to see whether I can moisturise my lips better before using it.

Do you think a lip primer might be better? Do you guys have any recommendations?! Let me know in the comments below 🙂
