Traffic To Your Blog Can Be So Tough In The Beginning
When you first start your blog, you can feel like getting blog traffic is ridiculously difficult. All of the blog posts out there make it sound so easy, but honestly? It’s TOUGH.
There’s so much competition out there, and you have to do a combination of things to get your blog in front of the right people.
In this blog post, I’m going to show you my best tips and strategies for getting to your first 30K blog views. It’s going to be a tough ride, and I want you to know that I get it. I was in the same position as you, and I still work super hard to keep growing my page views.
At the end of the day, the more eyes on your content, the more email subscribers you will get, the more clicks on your affiliate links, and the more sales you will make.
As you move into creating your own products and services, high levels of traffic will help you get those products to the people who want and NEED them!

First Things First – You Need A Solid Foundation To Your Blog
There are a few things that you need to do to your blog first to make sure that you have the best possible chances of succeeding.
- Get your design up to scratch. Use a premium theme if you’re using WordPress and make your site simple to navigate. Use a plain font and make it large enough so that it’s pleasant for people to read.
- Work on your branding. Make sure that your colours match across your site and that you use them same fonts and colours for all of your graphics too. If you’re not the best photographer, you can use stock images. I love HauteStock photos and use them across a couple of my websites. You should also learn to improve your photography – this is something I really want to do over the rest of 2018!
- Use a good hosting service for your blog. This was something I didn’t realise the importance of when I first started my blog. Around 7 months in, I knew that I had to make the change, and so many of the full-time bloggers that I was inspired and motivated by were using SiteGround. I made the switch and I haven’t looked back! It’s such a brilliant hosting service – affordable, makes my site run with blazing speed, and makes it super secure with its SSL certificate (which gives you HTTPS). You can transfer your site across free if you use the GrowBig price plan. I actually recommend it because you might only have one website right now, but in the future you might want to start more. It’s really useful having it ready to go! Having a quick, secure website is vital to getting lots of traffic to your blog.
- Have an email service provider ready to go. I wish I had started my email list sooner! I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to grow their blog into a business. I use MailerLite because they’re free for the first 1000 subscribers on your list, and they have all the tools to create beautiful sign up forms, landing pages and automated email sequences. When you start working on that traffic you’re going to want to convert as many people as possible to email subscribers!
Now that you have a solid foundation to your blog, it’s time to look at the different ways that you can work on your blog traffic and your first 30K blog views.
The first part of this is working out who your target audience is, and understanding why this is important. It’s a vital part of your overall strategy and will help with getting your first 30K blog views because it’s how you target the right people to actually come to your blog in the first place!
How To Figure Out Who Your Target Audience Is
When talking about blog traffic and growing your readership, it’s really important to think about your target audience.
It makes things much easier if you plan who you are writing for and who you are trying to help with your content before you get started.
Rather than writing for everyone, you will be writing for a specific type of person, which helps you tailor your content. You will be able to build up a community of people who are interested in your content, that love what you do, and will want to come back for more again and again.
Take some time to think about who you are writing for – I imagine this as one single person. Think about how old they are, where they live, what kind of job they do, whether they are a parent, and what they like and dislike. Then you need to think about the kinds of problems this person would have, and how you can use your content to fix them.
Eventually you will need to look at products/services that you can create, and how they would provide the solution to the problems your target audience has.
Would they want an e-book? Or a video series? Or an online course?
Use this information as we go through the different elements to getting your first 30K page views and it will give you the edge to make this possible.
Organic Traffic – Search Engine Optimisation
One of the most important ways to get readers to your blog is organic traffic from search engines such as Google.
This is one of the most lucrative ways to get traffic to your blog, because once you have your posts optimised, they will continue to bring you traffic for a long time. It’s not the same as other methods where you need to continue promoting your posts to get attention to them.
Search engine optimisation or SEO is a great skill to learn, and is vital towards your blog’s overall success.
There are lots of different elements that go into SEO, and it is definitely something that you could write a lot of posts about! However, I will explain some of the more important parts of it, and what I use to get organic traffic to my blog.
I use Google Analytics to keep an eye on my stats, and organic traffic from search engines is my third highest referral source of page views (I will explain all about my other traffic sources further down in the post).
It accounts for just under 12% of all traffic I’ve had since I started All In My Head last year!
Top Tips For Search Engine Optimisation
These are some of the top tips that I would recommend you working on to increase your blog traffic via search engines.
Working on each of these and getting a handle on them will help increase the amount of times your blog posts come up in search engine results and the amount of times people click-through to read them.
I’ve written a post about SEO for beginners, but the top points are below:
- Install a plugin to help! Something that I definitely recommend for your blog is the plugin Yoast SEO. It has lots of useful features, which are included in the free version. The main feature is the ranking system for your post’s current SEO ranking. It shows you whether you’ve got your keyword in all the right places within your post, and whether you’ve done all the right things in regards to images and links.
- Use a tool to find keywords that are going to generate traffic. Whilst Yoast SEO will show you that you’ve put the keywords in the right places and the right amount of times, it won’t tell you the strength and the likelihood that your keyword is going to do well. For this, you need to use a keyword planner. I recommend trying out options such as Google’s Keyword Planner, Wordstream and SEMRush. Find long tail keywords that have a high amount of searches but low competition, so that you will have lots of people looking but not many big companies already competing for that term. This means you’re more likely to come up on the first 1-3 pages of the search results.
- Make sure that your blog performs well. Google prefers websites that load fast and don’t have lots of issues and error messages. Take your time to work on your site speed. I like GT Metrix – it shows you what you need to do to increase your site speed, but explains it in terms that you can clearly understand! Having your blog hosted through SiteGround also contributes to great site speed.
- Get an SSL certificate to give you HTTPS. Google is currently giving better priority to sites that have SSL certificates. This is most likely because people who make sure their websites are safe have user experience in mind, and more likely to be a serious business. It also means that people they are directing to the site will be able to stay safe whilst using it, which makes Google look good! They don’t want to direct to poor quality, unsafe sites.
- Write killer titles and meta descriptions to encourage people to click-through. It’s super important to make sure that the title of your post is going to draw people in and make them want to read more. The meta description is the bit of info below the link, and explains a bit more what the post is about. The Yoast SEO plugin gives you the option at the bottom of the page to write your own meta description. Make use of this! If you don’t, it’ll just get pulled through from the top of your blog post. Write a really catchy, concise description that will encourage people to click though.
SEO is a really huge element of getting blog traffic, and will help significantly towards your first 30K page views.
Next we’re going to look at Pinterest, as this is my highest traffic source, and it’s such a huge part of my overall blogging strategy.
Pinterest Blog Traffic
Pinterest is a great way to get blog traffic, and will definitely make a huge impact towards that first 30K blog views.
There are lots of reasons why I love Pinterest for my blog and business.
It’s a great way to get traffic to your blog for weeks, months and even years, to your blog posts. Pinterest will show your pins to people whenever they are relevant, and you can easily resurrect them by pinning them again at any time.
I also love to use it for inspiration, and to learn new things. I’m forever reading various blog posts from all kinds of amazing bloggers! It’s a great resource for education, and as a blogger we never stop learning.
To get lots of free traffic from Pinterest, there are a few main things to do, and to take into consideration as you start with the platform.
To begin with, you need to make sure that optimise your profile. Get a business account and apply for rich pins because this will ensure your pins have bold titles and stand out more on the Pinterest smart feed.
Once you’ve done that, make sure that you set up your profile with a brief bio that showcases exactly what you do.
Then it’s time to start creating pins for your blog posts. Make sure to use a nice image in the background, and then use a text overlay to describe what the post is about. Use bright colours that match your branding, and an eye-catching title that will make people want to click-through.
Use a long, vertical image size – I use 735px by 1400px to make sure that it stands out in the Pinterest smart feed.
Pinterest Is Also A Search Engine
This is extremely vital when thinking about getting blog traffic. When reaching that first 30K page views, and any traffic after that too – remember that Pinterest uses SEO just the same as other search engines.
Make sure that you use keywords within your text overlay, your pin description and your boards. This keyword should match the one that you have used for your blog post, as it needs to be relevant, and will help it have more success across the board.
I also advise creating more than one pin for each blog post. Some bloggers recommend 3-5 pins per post, which is what I aim to do. It helps because some people might prefer different types of graphics, and you’ll appeal to lots more people if you give them options.
A great way to get your pins out there is to join group boards. These are the same as normal boards, apart from they have more than one person contributing to them.
This helps get your pins out there in front of lots of new people.
If other contributors to the group board have higher reach than you, then you will be able to piggy back some of this when you share to that board! It makes it massively effective to take the time and apply to join lots of relevant, highly engaged group boards.

Tailwind Scheduler To Increase Reach
Once you’ve got everything set up and ready to go, it’s time to get those pins out there! I recommend a combination of manual pinning and the use of a scheduler.
I’ve been using Tailwind for around 10 months now, and it’s made a huge difference in the amount of traffic that Pinterest directs to my blog.
I think it’s the fact that my pins are going out throughout the day and at peak times using the smart schedule. It makes it really easy to just set and forget – I try to get a month’s worth of pins ready to go at a time.
I have around 50-70 pins a day going out on auto pilot – to my own boards and my group boards – which is a lot better than me just trying to manually pin everything myself!
Another great feature of Tailwind is the Tribes function. They are basically another way to get on group boards, but without having all the pins actually on your profile.
You join the Tribe and then select pins from the Tribe to add to your own schedule. You can also add your own pins into the mix, and it really helps with getting repins.
One of the Tribes I’m in gets me around 3 million reach each month, which is a huge amount of people!
You can join my Tribe, Blog For Business, and get a piece of the action yourself. There’s not too many strict results in my Tribe, which makes it a great place to start. Social media is one of those things that I both absolutely love, and also hate a little bit too!
I feel like it’s ridiculously easy to get sucked in and become a little crazy about growing your following, when actually it doesn’t directly relate to the success of your blog!
If you’re looking to make money from your blog and take it seriously as a business, then you need to work on ways of bringing that traffic to your blog, but then turning them into subscribers.

Top Tips For Growing On Social Media
A lot of the tips can be used for the various platforms out there: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
Of course, there are also a lot of platform specific tips that you will need to focus on in more detail. I have some resources below from AIMH that will be of use:
Below I’ll briefly go into the tips that work across all social media platforms, to help you promote your content and help direct the millions of people who use those platforms to your blog.
- Post regularly with relevant content that will interest your ideal reader
- Use images, videos and GIFs to make your posts stand out
- Brand all of your profiles to match your blog – use the same image for your profile photo and if possible use your blog header as your header on the social media accounts
- Engage with people so that they can get to know you, your blog and your brand
- Share your own blog posts a lot, but also share other people’s content that are also in your niche
- Build relationships with other bloggers in your niche – collaboration is a huge part of blog success.
If you create a strategy for each of the blogging platforms then you will be able to keep them updated and show up for your audience.
I recommend focusing on just one or two platforms and really getting to know exactly what works for them. Look at your analytics and see which platforms send you the most traffic and then work on those.
It’s more worth your time to focus on the ones already doing well, rather than trying to make something of the platforms that just don’t bring you any traffic.
The Most Important Element Of Getting Blog Traffic And Reaching Your First 30K Page Views?
Whilst all of the above is absolutely important to you reaching your first 30K page views, the vital thing you need to do is create unique, long-form content that explains the topic in as much detail as possible.
Create a schedule, so that you keep up the consistency. I share a blog post every Tuesday and sometimes on a Saturday if I have a guest post for example.
I make sure that all of my posts are over 1000 words, and aim for more if I can. The more the better, because it means that I’m providing the most detailed response to a question/topic.
This post is close to 4000 words, which is one of the longest posts on my blog, and I am going to focus on creating more like it.
It’s also really key that you do lots of research and make sure that the post you’re writing is relevant, interesting and the facts mentioned are accurate. Link to related content from other high quality websites, and to your own related blog posts too.
When you use all of the above techniques and tactics you will be well on your way to your first 30K page views. You may find this happens within a couple of months or it may take longer.
Everyone’s blogging journey is different and there’s no point beating yourself up about it. Simply look at what’s working and what isn’t using your analytics and then focus on the things that are working.
Take your time to learn new things and keep reading blogs that inspire and give you the knowledge to take things to the next level. Blogging is a constant learning game, and that’s one of the things I love most about it!
