ShareASale | How To Make Money With Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate Marketing For The Masses
Affiliate marketing is just one of the ways to make money from blogging. And whilst it’s not completely passive, you can write posts that will continue to make money in months or even years! As long as you promote that content regularly and it’s relevant, then it’s possible.
ShareASale is an affiliate network, meaning it connects you to thousands of products and services to promote from different brands and providers. You get your own personalised, trackable links, and anytime someone makes a purchase? You earn commission. The rate depends on each individual program, and I’ve been pretty impressed with the percentages.
I’m going to show you how to use ShareASale to earn money, and some techniques for boosting your affiliate marketing income. With anything blogging-related, you need a strategy. Things to aim for! Without that, it’s going to be a lot more difficult. And it might take a lot longer for things to fall into place. I’ll show you my tips and tricks to maximising your reach with your affiliate links – and how this boosts your income!
Personally I love affiliate marketing, and it’s one of the main methods of income that I focus on. I use a lot of different products and services to run All In My Head, and it’s taken me a long time to find ones that I love! Of course, I want to share those with my readers. My main aim is to help women grow their blogs, and turn them into successful businesses. So a lot of what I use myself is completely relevant to you!
Let’s have a look at who ShareASale are first and whether they would be a good fit for your blog + your business.
*This post may contain affiliate links. This means I may earn a small commission for purchases made, at no extra cost to you. Please see my disclosure policy for more info.*
ShareASale – Who Are They?
They’re an affiliate network from the USA, who were recently bought out by Awin. They provide access to thousands of products and services from across the world. If you read any affiliate marketing post, you’re likely to come across them. I’d heard a lot about them, and decided to sign up – mostly because of the range of products they offered. They also provide the affiliate program for Tailwind, which is something I was very keen to get on board with!
I have written about Awin previously: they are still running as a separate entity to ShareASale, as far as I can see. I discussed how you can use Awin to make money from brands relating to fashion, beauty, home + lifestyle.
Why Use Them To Make Money?
There are a few reasons why I would recommend signing up to ShareASale if you want to make money from your blog.
- They are free to join!
- They provide access to thousands of products and services
- You can sign up for the Tailwind affiliate program through them, which is one of the main reasons I did
- It’s super easy to use, and find products and services to promote that you love and use
- The commission rates are great: some are as high as 50%!
- They’re great for bloggers because they provide access to affiliate programs for blogging resources, apps, websites and services that you’re likely already using.
If you’re looking for a super simple affiliate network then ShareASale is definitely worth trying. As it’s free to join, you’ve got nothing to lose, and if you’re not a fan then you don’t have to use it!
Why I Like Affiliate Networks
I like the whole affiliate network system, because it means I can keep a lot of things in the same place. With independent affiliate programs, it can be tough to keep up with everything. Checking your progress can be time-consuming, because they’re spread out across so many different websites!
If like me, you want to earn money from affiliate marketing, but don’t want to have too many different things going on at once, then ShareASale would be perfect. It takes the hassle out of managing tens of different affiliate programs! Join ShareASale now and get your account set up – it’s so quick and easy! All you need to do is input some details about yourself, your blog, and how you want to be paid. It only takes around 5 minutes to get completely set up!
Now that you’re ready to go, we’re going to have a look at the techniques you can use to make money from affiliate marketing. These are things that I do myself to boost conversions, and things that I want to try, and are part of my strategy in the long run. Try one or two things at a time, edit and tweak and see how things go. What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa. Experimenting and analysing the results is the only way to see what works and what doesn’t!
Creating Content That Converts
One of the best techniques when it comes to affiliate marketing, is creating content that converts readers into clickers. Obviously that makes sense. But you need to do some research and find out exactly what it is that your readers are looking for, and how you can fill that need.
It depends on what the product/service is that you’re talking about – each different area will have content that performs better. Use your analytics, I recommend Google Analytics, and find out what your top posts are. You can do this on Google Analytics by going to Behaviour >> Site Content >> All Pages. Change the date range to the last two or three months, and it will show you the most read posts on your site within that time. It will give you enough info to create a realistic idea of what’s interesting your readers.
Write down the top 10 most read posts, and use this list as a basis for creating new content. You know that these topics are things your readers enjoy – look at ways you can grow and build on them. Create a mind map for each post, and think of ways that you can write more about that topic.
Another thing to think about is the type of content that converts well. Mostly I’ve found that roundup, product guides, and lists of favourite things seem to do very well when it comes to converting. Pair them with great photography, and people are likely to click-through! Guides and tutorials also do really well as long as they are informative enough. Include images, stats and source links where possible to boost authority.
Use Different Methods To Include The Link
There is more than one way to include the affiliate link inside your content. Each different method has it’s benefits, and you should aim to use a combination within all of your posts. People are more likely to click if there is more than one option.
For example, when I’m talking about ShareASale, I can include the link on the word itself.
You can also use it alongside a call to action or CTA. So you might say: You should definitely have a look at ShareASale and see how it can make money for you. Click here to go to the website!
Another great way to include the affiliate link is by adding it to an image. People love clicking on images! When you upload a photo to WordPress, you can input a link so that when the reader clicks the photo, they will be directed to the link itself. This can be really useful for affiliate marketing!
You can click on the image and it will take you straight through to the sign-up page for ShareASale. It’s another great way to include the link, and it brightens up your article too!
Utilise Social Media
You can also include your affiliate links in your social media posts. Because the links are often lengthy and full of random letters and numbers, you can use Bitly to disguise them! It makes them look much better, and people are more likely to click on them.
I would write a little about why they should click the link, and what the benefits are to them. Especially now that Twitter have increased the character limit for tweets, it makes it a lot easier to give a bit more info to encourage people. I’ve found that the more information there is surrounding the link, the more likely people are to click. It should be personal and informative, and hopefully people will be able to see the benefit to them! Even if it’s just enough to make them want to have a look. Once they’re on the site, there will be lots more to convince them to buy the product or sign up! Your job is to get them there.
It’s also definitely worth including an image if possible. Choose something related to the topic you’re talking about, and try to make it as pretty as possible. Beautiful images really help people want to click on them!
ShareASale provide you with lots of banners to use, depending on the product/service. Each merchant has different tools available, so when you sign up take some time to get familiarised with all the different features.
Making Money From Blogging | A Marathon Not A Sprint
It’s going to take time to earn a full-time income from your blog. It’s not something that’s going to happen overnight, and it’ll take a lot of hard work to get it there. I’m finally seeing a part-time income from All In My Head, which is largely down to using ShareASale + Awin to promote the products and services I’m already using and loving!
I’ve also written an e-book – Blog To Business: Creating A Blog Primed For Success, which you can grab on Amazon for £3.99. If you’re a beginner blogger and want to find out the answers to a lot of the questions you’re going to have, then my e-book is a great place to start.
As you can see, I have quite a few different areas where I earn an income from my blog. It’s taken time, and a lot of work to get to this point, and there’s still a long way to go. It’s about creating the methods that work for you, and your business aims!
Affiliate marketing is one of my favourite ways to earn money from blogging, as I would be writing about these things anyway! It only takes me creating the link and inputting it into the post, and I can make money for months to come from it. It’s no different to the effort I would put in for any normal post.
Keep Your Integrity
The final point of this post is to remind you of the pitfalls of promoting things you don’t genuinely love or use. First off – it shows! You can tell from someone’s content if they’re really passionate about what they’re talking about. It makes sense.
Secondly – people want to know that they are spending their hard earnt money on the right things. And if you’re talking about a product that you don’t actually know much about or have any experience with, then you might be leading people the wrong way.
Remember to stay honest and don’t go over the odds to promote anything and everything, just because you think it will earn you money. Your readers want your honest and knowledgeable opinion, not just a sales pitch for something you don’t really care about! People will begin to distrust you, and won’t return if they feel you’re selling out.
Avoid being the person that you wouldn’t trust yourself.
