Change Your Writing Habit

You have a writing habit already, whether or not you are aware of it. For the most part, it is hugely useful to have a writing habit, as it enables you to keep to a schedule and produce work. But at some point, this stops working, and instead you have to change things up if you want to keep producing words at the same kind of rate.

There are many elements to your writing habit which you might consider changing, and going for any of them will be a good idea at some point own the line.

You might choose to switch to a different word processor.Β If you find that the one you usually use to write in is becoming old or boring, switching to a new one can make a world of difference. You might even take some MS Word training classes in order to fully integrate your skills, and so improve your writing itself.

You can also think about changing when you write, what time of day, what you are wearing, whether you have eaten, and much more besides. Although all of this might seem elementary, the truth is that it all impacts your writing and how much you are likely to produce in a day.

So make sure that you are free to change-up any of them if you find that they are longer serving you. This can be one of the best ways to shake things up, and it is worth considering if you want to really see some changes.

Check Out Other People

From time to time, you might find it beneficial to check out other bloggers just to see what they are doing. In so doing, you will be able to get together a few ideas, and this can be hugely helpful in keeping yourself inspired.

That inspiration is necessary if you are to have plenty of ideas throughout your blogging career, so this is something that you really don’t want to overlook if you can help it. By paying attention to what others are doing, you can make it more likely to keep the ideas flowing, and it also means that you will know what you want to avoid as well.

Just look at the things that they do that you think are not so good, and you will find that you are able to get a clear understanding of what you should really do going forward. Looking to others can therefore inspire you in a couple of ways, both of which are very useful – and it is worth doing so if you want to keep your blog on top form at all times.

Just remember: never copy content from other bloggers or writers! It’s not okay!

Read

As with all kinds of writing, one of the best ways to discover new ideas for blogging is to read more. The more extensively you read, the more you will find that you are able to come up with new ideas for your blog, and it can be truly amazing how much of a difference this can really make in the long run.

With increased reading also comes a more highly tuned intuitive grasp of language and how it is used effectively to convey certain things, and all of this is beneficial for the blogger who wants to draw in more readers and give him a certain kind of experience which they will remember forever.

Reading is one of the major things you should do if you want to understand writing better, so make sure you set time aside in the day for it, every day ideally. As long as you do, you will never truly be short of ideas, and you will improve your writing more and more as well. That’s something to be proud of.

Blog post ideas can be difficult to find sometimes! I show you how to find that inspiration again.

Research

Another great way of finding blog post ideas is by doing some research. Places like Twitter and Pinterest have trending areas – a brilliant way to find topics that people are already searching for regularly!

Even just scrolling through Pinterest can give you lots of new ideas, so it’s definitely worth giving it a go. The more ideas you find the better! If you’re feeling inspired then make the most of it, and get all your new ideas written somewhere. I have a spreadsheet that’s extremely useful for all of my different ideas so I always have that open and ready for me to input new info.

Use all of the info out there on the internet and work out how you can use it to further your blog and your business. You want to find content that is exciting, original and that people are already looking for. That’s why I love the trending areas – just make sure you create evergreen content around those topics [content that can be read at any time and still be relevant i.e not seasonal.]

Analyse Old Content

Finally, it can be really useful to look at your old content and find out which posts are doing particularly well. Write down your top 5 most read posts [you can use Google Analytics to find this out], and think about whether you can write more content around the topics from these posts.

They are already popular with your audience, so it makes total sense to use these for ideas. You know that your readers will respond well to those topics, so make the most of it! Maybe you could create a related roundup post, or a related tutorial?

There are lots of ways in which you can use the knowledge of your most read posts, and this is definitely one of the more important ones! You’ve got to use the data and the info to your advantage, and you’ll see the results for yourself.

I hit writers block this week as I was trying to come up with a new post. After looking at my ever-growing idea list about 5 times and not having motivation to write on any of the topics, I turned to older content. I took an old email and re-purposed it into a new post. It was great to have all the hard work already done and I could just focus on perfecting!
